The Power of PerQuat® Technology
Sterilex is a third generation, family-owned company that began when one of the inventors of the company’s core technology launched a scientific research company following his retirement as a chemist. The company won a military contract to develop a universal decontaminating technology for biological and chemical warfare agents. In the process, the technology team learned more about the microbiology of biofilms and their role in developing resistant microorganisms, so they focused on developing a core technology that could penetrate and dissolve biofilm and kill the bacteria living within it. Recognizing the broader commercial applications for these products in the areas of health care and animal and food processing environments, Sterilex was launched in 1995.
Sterilex has since developed a line of proprietary, award-winning biofilm-control biocides, broad spectrum disinfectants and rapid biofilm diagnostic tools that can be used in a variety of applications such as food and beverage protection, animal health, and water treatment applications.Sterilex patented
Sterilex’s proprietary PerQuat® technology has the unique ability to penetrate and remove biofilms, kill microorganisms in biofilms (such as Listeria, E.coli, Salmonella, and Pseudomonas), and remove organic contaminants.*

Sterilex has a core commitment to innovation, and to developing differentiated, high-performing products. Sterilex products have been recognized as groundbreaking in their ability to solve difficult microbial control challenges, leading to safer end products and processes, longer shelf life, and greater productivity. The company’s track record in developing the first products to demonstrate efficacy and achieve EPA registrations against bacterial biofilm (both public health and non-public health use sites) exemplifies Sterilex’s success in translating entrepreneurial concepts, based upon industry needs, into valuable products. Sterilex’s culture of innovation blends ‘small company’ creativity and flexibility with ‘big company’ control processes, and reflects a collaborative spirit within Sterilex and with our customers.
Sterilex’s R & D activities are carried out in our own state-of-the art laboratories in Hunt Valley, MD, and are staffed by PhD scientists and regulatory specialists.
